I hope that each of you relishes your conference tomorrow! For our Pre-Primary and Primary friends, the conference will be a “traditional” conversation with the teacher. For those of you who have children in Classes 1–8, your conference will be led by your child. Through the preparation process, each student has been invited to be reflective about him or herself as a learner, as a person and as a member of the community.
- As a learner: We want students to know the nuance of intellectual gifts that God has given them, to know what gifts they are being asked to develop, what might be more of a challenge, and areas that may need more effort.
- As a person: We want students to know, accept and love who they are. We want them to become aware of the choices they make that demonstrate self-respect, and the choices they make that do not honor who they are and how God made them.
- As a member of the community: We want students to know what is easy for them in relationship-building and what is challenging in that regard. What choices do they make that value the face of Christ in others, and what choices do they make that do not? What effort (either by choosing to act or choosing not to act) do they put forth in constructing/building a healthy community with and among their classmates?
To act without reflecting is merely REacting. To act after having reflected is choosing wisely.
Enjoy your day tomorrow as a step in the journey of your child’s growth in wisdom!
