This week, Mrs. Mary Reepmeyer reflects on her time in the classroom as Fourth Class teacher as she transitions to Principal for the 2024-25 academic year.
Spring, with its promise of renewal, is my favorite season for a variety of reasons. The flowers begin blooming, the grass turns greener, and the landscape becomes a colorful tapestry to admire. I appreciate the warmer weather as students enjoy lunch outside and hold classes around our beautiful campus. During Poetry Month, I encourage my Fourth Class students to reflect upon themselves and the vibrant world around them as they write their bio and color poems. I also love Earth Day and incorporating lessons around its importance in hopes of inspiring students to become stewards of the Earth and active agents of environmental change. (Goal 3) Lastly, one feels the palpable excitement around the preparation for many exciting end-of-year activities and events such as Chemin de Fer, Mission Day, Field Day, May Crowning, and of course graduation for our Eighth Class students. It is truly a time of immense joy!
Since this is the last spring that I will spend as a homeroom teacher, I have been reflecting on my time as a teacher and looking forward to my time as Principal in the coming school year. It is an honor and privilege to spend this time with Mrs. Renken as I transition to my new role. Her leadership and support have significantly impacted my personal and professional growth. It has been amazing to collaborate with her about our school’s future and interview potential new faculty members. We have been busy meeting with numerous highly qualified candidates over the past month. We are both committed to hiring teachers who will live out our Sacred Heart mission of educating both the heart and mind of each child. After the initial interviews, we have invited selected candidates to spend the day at our school with host teachers. We would like them to experience our community and give them a sense of a day in the life of the Academy. While they are here, they also have the opportunity for a second interview with Mr. Horner.
I am confident that we have acquired incredible new teachers who will join our already outstanding faculty. I am genuinely looking forward to collaborating with them to carry on our mission as well as promote collective growth and innovation in teaching and learning. (Goal 2) In addition, it excites me that I will have the opportunity to strengthen my relationships with Academy families as well as form new partnerships as I collaborate with parents to help their children grow in courage and confidence. (Goals 4 and 5) Furthermore, I am looking forward to conducting Lower School assembly as well as Middle School Living the Goals meetings. It is in those times and spaces that I will truly get to know each student and guide them in forming attitudes of the heart of Jesus, and to live as true children of the Sacred Heart. (Goal 1)
