In July 2021 Dr. Susan Dempf shared the news that she would be leaving the Academy after five years as Head of School. A Head of School Search Committee was put in place and a Search Firm was identified. The Academy community – parents, faculty, staff and administration, alumni, parents of alumni and board members – are vital voices in this search. Please reference these communications for the most up-to-date information in this ongoing search.
The Search Committee includes a diverse group of trustees, parents, alumnae, and members of the faculty and staff. The Head of School Search Committee will be primarily responsible for working with the search firm, obtaining input from the parents, alumni, faculty, staff and the administration, developing an ideal candidate profile, assessing qualifications and suitability of prospective candidates and interviewing candidates. Our expectation is that this effort will result in the presentation of finalists to the school community in early 2022.

The Academy’s Board of Trustees is excited to announce the appointment of Timothy Horner as the new Head of School at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, effective July 1, 2022. Tim’s appointment follows an extensive nationwide search, the gathering of input of our community, and the unanimous approval of the Board of Trustees.

Although it has been several weeks since our last communication, the Search Committee has been busy behind the scenes. Most recently, the Committee reviewed applicant files, reached consensus, and invited semi-finalists to interview with the Committee. Each semi-finalist offered broad skills, talents and experiences. After thoughtful deliberation, the Search Committee reached unanimous consensus to invite back three candidates for additional meetings and interviews and to meet with various members of our community.
Each finalist will be on campus for separate multi-day visits beginning Sunday, February 13. During this time, finalists will visit classes, meet with administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, board members and alumni. This is an opportunity for our community to learn more about each finalist and for each finalist to learn more about us.

Their work has involved reaching out to Catholic educational leaders throughout the country and abroad, utilizing Educational Directions’ comprehensive database, contacting national and regional associations and professional organizations as well as leadership programs at various Catholic universities, and advertising in appropriate websites such as The Blue Sheet, an executive search report published by Educational Directions.

Earlier this month Mathew Heersche and Risa Oganesoff Heersche from Educational Directions, visited the Academy to learn more about our school and the community as part of the search process. They meet with students, parents, faculty/staff, administration and Board members to gain insights and identify opportunities for the new Head of School and qualities sought in this individual. From this information, they have developed a Head of School Position Profile for potential candidates.
