#GoSacredHeartOlympians

Sacred Heart schools will have an exciting front row seat for the 2016 Summer Olympics as we follow 2012 gold medalist Katie Ledecky and five other Olympians from Network schools who are competing in Rio. (Ledecky was the youngest person this year on Time magazine’s “Time 100 List.”)

Olympians from Sacred Heart schools include:
  • Katie Ledecky, the dominant Olympian swimmer from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, Bethesda, MD

  • KK Clark, water polo player from Sacred Heart Prep, Atherton, CA
  • Lia Neal, swimmer from Convent of the Sacred Heart, New York, NY

  • Anabelle Smith, synchronized diver from Sacred Heart, Australia
  • Erin Rafuse, women’s double-handed skiff–49erFX sailing races from Sacred Heart, Halifax

Society of the Sacred Heart Announces New Superior General

August 4, 2016

Sister Barbara Dawson, RSCJ, Provincial of the Society of the Sacred Heart United States – Canada Province, was elected Aug. 2 as the Superior General of the International Society of the Sacred Heart at the Society’s General Chapter in Nemi, Italy. The General Chapter is composed of delegates from every province and serves as the highest governing body of the congregation.


Golf Results

The Academy 6th Class Girls golf team placed 3rd in the CYC League Team Championship on Saturday, June 18, playing against teams from West County, St. Charles County and South Central County. Congratulations to participants Paige W. (4th Class), Emma W. (4th), Tori F. (6th), Molly K. (6th), Faith K. (6th), Astrid S. (6th), Leah H. (St. Charles Borromeo) and Kylie B. (St. Charles Borromeo).

Congratulations to Tori, who placed 3rd in the CYC City/County Individual Championship on Sunday, June 26.

The girls had a great season! Special thanks to Brett Felton for both coaching and managing the team. [Absent from the photo are Faith and Molly.]


Alumni Congé

A lovely evening was enjoyed by many alumni returning to ASH for Congé Reunion on Saturday,  June 11. We welcomed in a special way members from the Honor Classes of 1956, 1961, 1966, 1976 and 1996. Congratulations to Diane Carroll Boerding ’76, recipient of the 2016 Rose Philippine Duchesne Award. (Due to illness, her daughter Gretta ’08 accepted the award on her behalf. ) [Remarks]

Summer Camps @ ASH

June 28, 2016

The Showtime performing arts troupe put on a colorful show at the end of their three-week summer camp. Going Bananas was written, staged, choreographed and performed by camp participants in Classes 2–8. What a fun experience and production!  Thanks to Laurie Strickland, director.

This week we welcome campers to Just Imagine!, a creative play camp with daily themes for children entering Pre-Primary and Primary.

Network Conferences at ASH

Sacred Heart educators from around the country will convene in St. Charles June 20–25 for two Network of Sacred Heart Schools conferences. The first half of the week will be a chance for Administrative teams and Heads of School from the 24 Network schools in the U.S. and Canada to come together in the spirit of Sacred Heart education. The second conference, Roots That Give Us Wings, describes Sacred Heart history, education, values, and traditions for educators desiring to make a difference through Sacred Heart education. Initially for new Sacred Heart employees, Roots has grown into a historical and reflective journey for those in Sacred Heart education, including Boards of Trustees, staff and faculty.

Congratulations, Class of 2016

God’s blessings on the Class of 2016—our newest alumni—as they conclude their years at the Academy of the Sacred Heart. We’re confident that they are well prepared to lead lives of meaning, leadership and service!

In the fall these 45 young men and women will be attending Barat Academy, CBC, Cor Jesu, DeSmet, Duchesne, Francis Howell North, Incarnate Word, Nerinx Hall, St. Dominic, St. Joseph’s Academy, SLU High, Villa Duchesne, Visitation and Westminster Academy.

Graduation and Alumni Induction ceremonies took place on Saturday, May 21.


Field Day Fun

What a fantastic Field Day we had for Classes 1–8 on Friday! Great job, ASH students, faculty and staff! Thanks to all who attended in support of our athletes, and thanks to God for the gorgeous day.


Duke TIP Recognition

May 10, 2016

Congratulations to our Seventh Class students who qualified for the Duke TIP talent search this year by having achieved a qualifying score at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level test. Seventeen students were invited to take the ACT or SAT college entrance test alongside current high school students. The results are in—four students achieved Grand (national) recognition and seven received State recognition. They have been invited to take part in recognition ceremonies at Duke University (Grand recognition) and  Drury University (State recognition). We are very proud of all participating students and applaud their hard work and determination. Well done!
