Congratulations to Sister Maureen Glavin on recently receiving the ST. GEORGE AWARD, presented by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting acting through the Archdiocese of St. Louis, in recognition of “significant and outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth through scouting.” The award was presented to Sister Glavin on Sunday, Feb. 5, at St. Charles Borromeo church.Mr. Chris Keesey provided the following narrative about Sister Glavin’s support of scouting.

Since becoming Head of School at the Academy of the Sacred Heart (St. Charles, MO) in 2004, well over 175 scouts (and many, many scouters) have grown in their faith through their involvement at the Academy, and the Scouting program that Sister Maureen Glavin has so faithfully and lovingly supported. Sister Glavin recognizes the parallels between the Five Goals of a Sacred Heart Education and the tenets espoused in the Scout Oath and Law, and has fully embraced the concept that “Scouting IS Youth Ministry.” As a Religious and an educator, she appreciates that instilling the dispositions of the Heart of Jesus in the heart of each scout will serve them well in their lives of leadership and service. As Head of School, she has worked tirelessly to further incorporate Scouting into the Academy community. She was recognized for her role as a spiritual leader to Pack/Troop/Crew 351 with the Bronze Pelican in 2012.

Sister Glavin is a beloved member of the “351 Scouting Family” and has attended many Eagle Scout Courts of Honor and unit Banquets over the years. She has a special way of making the presence of God truly known and experienced at these events, or, when simply conversing with her. The Holy Spirit visibly works in and through her and she has a deep love for people, especially the scouts under her care and guidance. Sister Maureen Glavin has deeply touched the lives and hearts of so many scouts, scouters, parents and siblings during her time at the Academy of the Sacred Heart. As a Religious of the Sacred Heart, she also serves the Society of the Sacred Heart (U.S. and Canada) on the Network Formation to Mission Committee and the Sacred Heart Commission on Goals. As she transitions this year to a new calling, she can take with her the knowledge that she has indeed made a lasting and loving difference in the lives of so many in her Scouting Family, and that with boundless gratitude, they will keep in their hearts countless fond and wonderful memories.
