KEEN provides free recreational opportunities to children and young adults with disabilities by pairing them with trained volunteers for fun, noncompetitive activities. Its goal is to develop each athlete’s self-esteem and confidence, as well as recreational skills and talents.
KEEN is modeled on a program established in England in 1988 and brought to Washington, D.C. in 1992. In 2005 KEEN opened its doors to new athletes and volunteers in Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, San Francisco, New York and Phoenix. Read more about KEEN St. Louis.
Executive Director Julie Scott Soffner wrote, “We loved spending the day together, and look forward to seeing our new friends again this spring. Thanks to all of the staff and faculty that gave of their time today, and big KEEN hugs to the ASH 7th graders. You rock!”
