Eighth grade is a pivotal year at the Academy. Our students and their parents are trying to enjoy their last moments before the final Maypole ribbon falls. They are also trying to find the right high school and finish strong academically. Eighth Class students are encouraged to find their voices and become the leaders that they have trained to be. Recently they were invited to reflect on their journey so far and how they feel about their last year at ASH.

Here are a few of their thoughts:

“When I first came to this school, I was extremely anxious, only talking the bare minimum. When I look back now and remember that first year, it is surreal how much I’ve grown and how much everyone else has too. Now that we’re in eighth grade, we’re seen as leaders and role models, and even though we’ve matured, it’s still nerve-wracking.”

“My class and I are extremely grateful for all the academic opportunities that have been given to us. I am also extremely grateful to all of my outstanding teachers through the years. I have learned so much from them and the faculty at ASH. I know that I will be able to go to high school confident and ready for anything that I am faced with during my time there. I have learned how to balance my school and my home life, and how to make sure that I get all my homework done. I have learned to keep track of my assignments in a way that is personalized to my learning style, and what works best for me.”

“I will especially miss the wonderful community, the familiarness, the friends I have made and the people I have met. The Academy is home to me. I have spent so much time here and made so many memories; it is going to be a little sad to leave it all behind. I am going to cherish the time I have left and make the most of it. I know this year is going to be an amazing year, full of change and excitement.”
