For the past several years, alums have commemorated Philippine’s Feast (Nov. 18) with a Day of Service. Not only is this a community builder among alums, it is a direct expression of Goal 3 of Sacred Heart education: a social awareness which impels to action. In the past, our alums have served at area organizations as well as completed projects on the Academy’s campus.
For this unique year, we are planning projects on the Academy campus where we will be following our safety guidelines (temp checks, social distancing and mask wearing). We’ll begin at 8:30 a.m. with prayer in the Shrine, followed by coffee, juice and donuts in the Cafeteria. Projects will begin around 9 a.m.
This year, three options are available for our alums. If you are planning to join us, please submit the form below and we’ll be sure to send you updates.
- Garden Clean-Up: fall trim back and weeding of Mater Garden and the areas around Sacred Heart and Philippine statues
- Art Room Clean-Up: remove old art supplies and miscellaneous items from below the Science Wing and transfer to dumpster or recycling as needed
- Blanket Project to benefit Youth In Need: Make cozy fleece blankets, no sewing skills required! We have several sets of fleece blankets, but feel free to bring your own fleece.
In addition, we’ll also be collecting personal care items for “Simple Gifts,” a project begun by Laurie Kirchoff Strickland ’76. Through this effort, gift bags for teens at Youth in Need and developmentally disabled adults at Community Living who may have very little will receive basic hygiene items. Suggestions for regular sized or travel sized and individually packaged items include: toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, socks, gloves, winter hats, lip balm, hand lotion, combs, hairbrushes. Feel free to bring items with you for drop off. Thank you in advance!
