The Fire of Learning

The hallways have been unusually quiet this week as many of our students have been engaged in taking some standardized assessments each morning.

We use the ERB (Educational Records Bureau) for student assessments in grades 3–7. The reason we use the ERB is because, in our experience and estimation, they are:

  • Sufficiently challenging
  • Thorough in assessing application of knowledge
  • Informative in the data provided, which is used for curriculum review

Our Eighth Class takes the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) in the fall. The Catholic Education Office of the Archdiocese provides a viability report for each school. This report compares our scores with the scores from all parochial schools in the Archdiocese and in our Deanery. We recently received test results for the Class of 2017 and are proud to share that their scores are considered “exemplary” as defined by the Archdiocese.

Thank you for supporting and nurturing your child’s intellectual growth. Everything you do at home—from reading with your children, to surrounding them with books, to sharing your love of learning, to encouraging their deep/reflective questions, to taking them to museums, to supporting the homework routine, to helping them to develop their organizational routines—is part of the partnership we so appreciate. Our end goal in this aspect of their Sacred Heart experience is to have students on fire with a love a learning!

May the fire of learning continue to burn brightly in all of us!
